One analogy I’ve seen for simple anonymous credentials is to think of them like a digital version of a “wristband”, the kind you might receive at the door of a club. In that situation, you show your ID to the person at the door, who then gives you an unlabeled wristband that indicates “this person is old enough to buy alcohol” or something along these lines. Although the doorperson sees your full ID, the bartender knows you only as the owner of a wristband.
